#TheseSoliloquies – Act I, Scene I: Our Hometown Trail // Cast: Kristin Fulbright
Act I, Scene I: Our Hometown Trail
Cast: Kristin Fulbright
I’m going to be honest, my first shoot for #TheseSoliloquies was very unplanned. Actually when we went to go shoot, I didn’t have any real direction for the project yet, no title or anything, I just knew I wanted to play around with portraits and that was it. So when I texted Kristin about us meeting up for coffee and to catch up on life (after not seeing each other in 3-4 years), I was like, “Aaaand let’s also a photo shoot?” And being an amazing friend, she let me shove my camera in her face. And man oh man, did she enter the stage with such fun and quirky energy–it turned out better than I had (not) planned.
I’ve known Kristin since the seventh grade. Back from the days of when all we really did was write notes in class about who liked who and then would rush home, just to hop on AIM and talk about the same thing. Back when we’d go to the mall on the weekends, but had no money to buy anything, so we’d just run around and piss off the security guards because “us damn kids were up to no good.” And back when we’d watch Friends all the time and would decide who of our friends were which characters. (I was Chandler btw, and Kristin was Phoebe.) It’s amazing that Kristin and I are somewhat surviving in the real world, especially when I think of how we once sang Veggie Tales’ Silly Songs With Larry to our 8th grade history teacher during passing time between classes in junior high. Which sounds like something that might have been cute if we were 10 years younger than what we were... But we were not and it was not. Ah, yes. That did happen. Along with many other memories that was filled with angst, randomness, and laughter. But mainly, it reminds me of what it’s like to be with a true friend who embraces your weird and jumps right in there with you. And though we’ve grown up now (sort of), I’m so glad that our friendship has stayed so golden. And no matter what, we’re still the funniest people in the world.
It only seemed fitting to do our frolicking photos along the Sammamish River Trail, in our hometown of Redmond, WA. I feel like this trail signifies heart. This trail is one I go and run on when I’m home to reflect and get my blood pumping. One I walk on with familiar faces and talk about all that we’ve done and want to do. And one that just will let you go for miles and miles, but will always bring you back home.
In all truth, this shoot was just about two friends catching up (and climbing on things and diving into bushes). Having fun, making stupid jokes, and looking stellar while doing so. Thanks, Kristin for always being down for an adventure and kicking off this project with such pizzaz!
